Today I went to Lotte Mart (pronounced LA-te) in Kunsan City. It is much different than driving through the city at night. Lotte Mart is a 4-story Wal-Mart type mega store. The carts are all chained together outside and cost 100 won to unlock, but you get that back when you return the cart. All the wheels caster on Korean carts, not just the front wheels like in the US. The parking garage is on the top floor of Lotte Mart so you ride an escalator-type conveyor belt between floors. The shopping carts ' wheels lock into the conveyor belt so they won't roll (quite ingenious I think).
There was four of us that wandered around the store for a while before we went to the grocery section. The store was clean and had a wide variety of items, especially in the seafood department. I am not used to seeing whole fish or fish that are just cut into segments (head still attached) packaged in a grocery store. There also seemed to be an abundance of gelatinous type of seafood as well as squid and octopus. Quite an eye-opening experience all around. We ended up buying some strawberry cookies, a donut-type muffin, and some aloe water. Yes that's right aloe water, with real bits of aloe so you know its good. Actually all the food was good including the aloe water which got a little pulpy toward the bottom of the can.
I unfortunately forgot to bring my camera on this momentous occasion, but I will post pics as soon as I get them.
ps Its after 1 am as I am writing this so my grammar/spelling aren't great but hopefully my ramblings make sense. Enjoy!
